If the Desktop does not appear, check for the following: A graphical screen appears, but it looks garbled (nothing like Figure 35) or the mouse doesn’t seem to work correctly. (Press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to exit back to the character mode console.) The screen goes blank for a moment, but then reappears in character mode with an error message. If either of these problems occurs, try running the XF86Setup program (as root user) to adjust your graphical configuration, or review the technical support information on page 8. Exiting the Desktop You can exit the Desktop environment by choosing Logout from the main menu of the KDE Desktop. To choose the Logout option: 1. Click on the K icon in the lower left corner of the screen (on the Panel). The main menu appears. 2. Choose Logout from the main menu. A logout dialog box appears. You can also choose the Logout item by right-clicking anywhere on the KDE Desktop background and selecting Logout from the pop-up menu. 3. Choose OK to close the graphical Desktop and return to the Linux console (command line mode). NOTE: If your system started with a graphical login, you return to that login window. Otherwise, you change to a character-mode command prompt.
